Supplier Relationship Management

Introduction

“With its broad model spectrum, the Volkswagen Group is unique in the automobile industry. Our eight independent brands set a new sales record last year, delivering almost 6.2 million vehicles to customers worldwide. I am therefore proud to report that our Group is on course. This success is in part attributable to cooperation with our global partners and suppliers.”

(Martin Winterkorn, press announcement of the Volkswagen Group Supplier Award, 2008)

SRM is a holistic purchasing approach which seamlessly integrates operational purchasing and strategic sourcing aspects, based on a strong analytical foundation. The core idea is to leverage past purchasing and supplying behavior to optimize future decisions and execute those purchasing decisions based on the strategic procurement guidance.
SRM has relevancy for all companies and all industries: savings, efficiency gains or quality improvements in procurement effect directly the bottom line. Starting with the state-of-the-art procurement and sourcing basics, the lecture will focus on advanced buying concepts and strategies for enterprises. Based on this business perspective, the lecture will give an overview on relevant IT solutions and specifically drill down into SAP’s product offerings in the SRM space.
